Why I built GovernedAI
Earlier this year, it became clear to me that artificial intelligence required more governance than any other technology I have worked with. Adoption was moving faster than the policies, inventories, and approval processes meant to oversee it. Most organizations could describe their AI programs. Few could demonstrate them to an auditor.
GovernedAI was built to close that gap. It provides a single system of record for every AI system an organization uses, and the evidence that each one has been reviewed, approved, and monitored. We started where the consequences of ungoverned AI are greatest: wherever sensitive data, consequential decisions, and regulatory scrutiny meet.
Background
My career began in 1999 as a web and application developer. Over more than two decades I have moved through software engineering, e-commerce and systems integration, enterprise IT leadership, executive technology leadership, and security and compliance advisory work. The common thread is building and running systems that organizations can rely on, and defend when questioned.
Executive technology leadership
I have served as a Chief Technology Officer, a Vice President of IT Strategy and Planning, a Regional Director of IT, and a Director of IT. In those roles I was accountable for technology strategy, software roadmaps, operating budgets, vendor relationships, information security, and disaster recovery, across start-up, mid-market, and multinational environments. One regional role spanned the United States, South America, Canada, and Australia.
Security, risk, and compliance
I have worked as a security technology consultant and as a senior consultant, advising organizations on security programs, enterprise risk management, and compliance. My independent consulting practice included engagements for large professional services and technology organizations.
Enterprise systems and integration
I have led ERP implementations, system integration, enterprise architecture, EDI, business intelligence, and e-commerce programs. One custom online quoting and ordering system I designed and delivered produced recognized savings of $1 million.
Software engineering
I have designed and built production applications and databases, including web platforms, internal systems, and ERP integrations. That hands-on foundation means I understand how systems, including AI systems, are actually built, connected, and changed.

How I approach governance
Governance is most effective when it addresses people, process, technology, and trust together. GovernedAI is built on that principle, and on alignment with recognized frameworks, including the NIST AI Risk Management Framework and ISO/IEC 42001, rather than on new ones of our own.
